If you have parents that have it, it is possible for you to develop the same illness. However, it does not entitle an individual to have it whether both parents have it. There are factors to be considered before one can have such kind of illness. If your parents develop it after your birth, you have a higher tendency not to have wheat allergies.

Is wheat allergy the same as wheat intolerance?
No. Wheat allergy and wheat intolerance are different. Although they both manifest the same signs and symptoms of celiac sprue, they are still both illnesses of different origins. Wheat allergy is the allergic reaction to certain food components of wheat such as gluten. It can be life threatening to some people. However, it is rare.
