Is wheat allergy the same as wheat intolerance?
No. Wheat allergy and wheat intolerance are different. Although they both manifest the same signs and symptoms of celiac sprue, they are still both illnesses of different origins. Wheat allergy is the allergic reaction to certain food components of wheat such as gluten. It can be life threatening to some people. However, it is rare.
Gluten intolerance is the difficulty to digest wheat because of a certain components of it. This is less important compared to wheat allergy. This is also slower when is comes to the onset of the illness and other involves the immune system. It can cause aching joints, eczema, depression, iron deficiency, gastrointestinal problems and many more. It is also associated with some serious health risks such as bowel cancer, anemia, osteoporosis and diabetes.
